# Template GitLab Pages redirect
A template repository used to redirect GitLab pages after a project rename.
## How to use
After renaming a project that uses GitLab pages, the old URL will return a 404.
Any links to the old URL will consequently break.
The solution is to create a *dummy* repository that creates a GitLab page with a redirect to the new address.
The steps:
1. Clone this repository
2. Edit `index.html` and replace all occurrences of `REDIRECT_URL` with the GitLab pages URL of the new repository
3. Edit this README to provide additional information (see Caveats below)
4. Create a new project with the old name
5. Push this repository to the old project location
If the CI succeeds you should be done.
Visiting the old URL should now redirect to the new automatically.
## Caveats
Pushing this template repository under the old name will make GitLab to no longer redirect the project URL.
This can be addressed somehow by editing this README and the description of the project to point to the new project location.
<!DOCTYPE html>
<meta charset="UTF-8">
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; url=REDIRECT_URL">
<script type="text/javascript">
window.location.href = "REDIRECT_URL";
