### **Installation Problems**
##### Missing R packages
Image Data Explorer versions >=1.5.0 now require R version >=4.3. Update your R installation if needed before trying to run the Image Data Explorer.
If missing packages are not installed automatically when starting the app, make sure the [required system libraries](https://git.embl.de/heriche/image-data-explorer/-/wikis/Installation#for-linux) are present.

##### Old R versions
If you are stuck with R version >=3.5 but <4.3, you can still run the latest image Data Explorer by installing the Rarr package manually from its github repository:
```
devtools::install_github("https://github.com/grimbough/Rarr")
```

##### On macOS
macOS doesn't come with Java pre-installed or may come with an old version of Java. Before using the Image Data Explorer, you'll need Java version >=1.8 (both runtime and JDK) matching the CPU architecture of your computer (i.e. arm64 for Apple Silicon or x64 for Intel). See [installation instructions for Oracle's JDK](https://docs.oracle.com/en/java/javase/17/install/installation-jdk-macos.html). Once you have installed a compatible Java version, follow the steps for rJava below.

##### **rJava**
rJava is an R package that allows R to use libraries written in Java. It requires that a Java Development Kit (JDK) is installed and findable by R. If you experience issues installing rJava, first make sure that Java is installed. Open a terminal and enter:
